Arts and Rehabilitation Delivered by experienced practitioners, New Directions is a powerful vehicle through which to explore complex issues and engage with young offenders at a critical period in their lives. The programme lasts 33 hours and can be spread over a period of 6 to 8 days depending upon your needs. New Directions combines two core elements: a drama performance piece and discussion session designed to open up issues related to rehabilitation and explore reactions to it (Section 1); followed by accredited workshops aimed at providing practical support, guidance, and a stepping stone towards further training and employment on release (Section 2).
Section 1 Section 2 Drama Performance (Level 1 or 2): This course introduces the participants to drama techniques and helps them to develop personal qualities such as self-esteem, confidence and social skills. Learners will also be encouraged to respond directly to the issues revealed in the play and to express their views on resettlement in a creative and productive way. The workshop will culminate in a final performance created by the participants themselves with the support of our team of experienced workshop leaders. OR Pre-Employment Training (Level 1 or 2): this course uses drama techniques in order to equip participants with the necessary skills to approach employment with confidence, on their release. Delivered by experienced workshop leaders, the course enables participants to develop self-presentation and organisational skills alongside interview techniques.
