Drama Performance

OCN - Level 1 or 2 (this course can also be delivered unaccredited)

Our Drama Performance
course aims at introducing participants to drama techniques and to support them in developing creative thinking and transferable skills.

The Course represents 30 hours of teaching which can be spread over six to eight days depending upon your needs. It is delivered by two to three workshop leaders experienced in working within the Criminal Justice System and sensitive to the issues involved in working with challenging client groups.

Participants are taken through the entire drama production process and can express their creativity in a safe and stimulating environment. The workshop culminates in a play devised and performed by the participants, giving them a chance to showcase their talents and celebrate their achievements.

All learners receive a DVD of their performance, provided we have obtained authorisation to film in the institution. As our Drama Performance workshop is accredited through the Open College Network, they can also obtain a certificate in Performance on successful completion of the course.

Throughout the workshop we will provide advice, information and contact details to interested participants on further training and work opportunities in the arts.

What do you need?

All we require from you in order to deliver the Drama Performance course is:

  • A space of appropriate size i.e. big enough to accommodate 12/15 people and to allow movement during the drama exercises
  • A flip chart

  • Refreshments for participants and workshop leaders

We will provide:

  • Overall management of the project
  • Experienced and trained staff members
  • A Theatre Technician and an Accreditation Adviser

  • All necessary material for the performance (Lighting, PA system, etc)
  • A video camera
  • DVDs of the workshop and performance
  • Evaluation

All our staff are CRB cleared.

How to choose the course level

Both Levels cover the same areas but will reflect the following difference:

Level 1 aims to secure the acquisition of a foundation of competences, knowledge and understanding in a limited range of predictable and structured contexts that prepare the learner to progress to further achievements.

(Equivalent to NVQ1, GNVQ Foundation, GCSE A-C)

Level 2 will aim to secure the acquisition of a broader range of competences, knowledge and understanding which demonstrate the extension of previous abilities in less structured and predictable contexts and prepare the learner to progress to further achievement.

(Equivalent to NVQ2, GNVQ Intermediate, GCSE A-C)

Both Levels are available so that you can choose the course which best meets the needs of the people in your care.

(FE Team Leader – HMYOI Portland)

'I have gained a lot of confidence since I started this course and I have learned how to act.'

'Since the course I am interested (in finding out more about career options within the field of drama and performance). I want to get into this and will be finding out more.'

'It’s a great course. It bonds you as a group and I enjoyed myself very much. Thank you.'
